The Halle Group was founded based on a simple question: “how can I become a better leader and create more effective teams?”For many years, Halle Group founder Carrie Hays worked for Marriott Hotels, in a variety of management positions and locations. During those fifteen years, she learned about leadership, team effectiveness, and organizational change. Hoping to answer her own question and strengthen her understanding of leadership and organizational effectiveness, Carrie decided to go back to school to earn a Masters in Management. And so, in 1997, The Halle Group was founded to help others become better leaders, and in turn, help their teams and organizations. With years of experience working both for and with organizations in a variety of leadership roles, we bring to our clients not just theory, but practical experience.
“Out of the frying pan and into the fire!” That’s how Carrie Hays describes her unusual path to the field of organizational and leadership development. A graduate of Colgate University and The Culinary Institute of America, Carrie’s first real job was as a chef for a large hotel. In that role, Carrie learned two things: that she wasn’t that great of a cook, and that the real challenge of preparing food was managing a team. Realizing that management intrigued her more than cooking, she hopped out of the kitchen and into the field of organizational and leadership development.
After fifteen years as a corporate manager, which included organizational change and human resources responsibilities, and after earning a Master of Arts in Management from John F. Kennedy University, Carrie started her own organizational development consulting practice, The Halle Group, based in Napa Valley, California. Known for her expertise at coaching, consulting, and facilitation, Carrie works with clients (in public, nonprofit, and private sectors) get strong results – in the work they do and how they do it.
In addition to her degrees, Carrie is certified in Presence Based Coaching, Marshall Goldsmith’s Stakeholder Centered Coaching, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, the Team Diagnostic, and is a member of the International Coach Federation. Trained and experienced in Appreciative Inquiry, Real Time Strategic Change and Future Search organizational change methodologies, Carrie has completed Critical Components of Effective Governance, Advanced Nonprofit Board Governance, The Skilled Facilitator, Facilitative Leader, The Facilitative Coach, and Facilitating Difficult Conversations workshops and is certified in The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.
She is also a Senior Consultant with Roger Schwarz & Associates (http://www.schwarzassociates.com).
Of her work, Carrie says:
“Coming to learn and implement approaches to lead better has been a challenging and at times painful process. I realized that when I was a manager, I had a well-entrenched unilateral way of thinking, and became regretfully aware of the mistakes I had made in those roles. Through learning new approaches, specifically Roger Schwarz’s Mutual Learning Approach©, I came to see clearly how I contributed to the very problems which I attributed to others. As my ease with more effective ways of thinking and leading, including the Mutual Learning Approach© theory and practice grew, my regret was replaced by excitement. Gratitude and inspiration are the words I would now use to describe what it means to me to be able to use this approach in my life. Without a doubt this work has made me a better person and a much more effective coach, facilitator, and consultant. I’m still not that great of a cook, but that’s another story…”
