For many years, Halle Group founder Carrie Hays worked for Marriott Hotels, in a variety of management positions and locations. During those fifteen years, she learned about leadership, team effectiveness, and organizational change. Hoping to answer her own question and strengthen her understanding of leadership and organizational effectiveness, Carrie decided to go back to school to earn a Masters in Management. And so, in 1997, The Halle Group was founded to help others become better leaders, and in turn, help their teams and organizations. With years of experience working both for and with organizations in a variety of leadership roles, we bring to our clients not just theory, but practical experience.

Carrie Hays is an accomplished trainer, organizational effectiveness consultant, and facilitator with over twenty years of management and organizational development experience. Known for her expertise at providing consulting services and facilitating customized workshops, retreats, and meetings designed to heighten organizational effectiveness, Carrie works with a variety of groups ranging from small teams to groups of up to 600 participants. As a result, her clients are able to create more effective organizations and teams that can successfully navigate change.

Through The Halle Group, a collaborative of organizational development consultants from around the world, Carrie’s work with private, public, and nonprofit organizations around the world has included such projects as the development, curriculum design, and workshop facilitation of a bi-annual management development series for clients such as county government leaders and a boutique hotel chain; ongoing harassment prevention training for all employees of a northern California county; management training workshop design including the creation of leader guides and participant materials for an international hotel company; executive coaching focusing on improving leadership skills and effectiveness; consultation of the development of a training and development program for large Bay Area nonprofit; consultation and facilitation of a comprehensive, year-long strategic planning and organizational effectiveness project with a major metropolitan area’s convention and visitors bureau; nonprofit board development and strategic planning; team building for a hotel’s twenty managers; organizational change consultations for a library, its leadership team and staff and for a corporate acquisition process; and designing and facilitating community outreach for a county-wide strategic transportation plan.

Trained and experienced in Appreciative Inquiry, Real Time Strategic Change and Future Search organizational change methodologies, Carrie has completed Critical Components of Effective Governance, Advanced Nonprofit Board Governance, The Skilled Facilitator, Facilitative Leader, The Facilitative Coach, and Facilitating Difficult Conversations workshops and is certified in The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and MBTI Team Building. She holds a Masters of Arts in Management degree from John F. Kennedy University, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Colgate University, and an Associate degree from the Culinary Institute of America.

Carrie is currently a member of the Board of Directors of SANE/SART, an organization that supports victims of sexual assault and their families. . She has served on the Board of Directors of the North Bay Chapter of the American Society of Training and Development, the Yountville Chamber of Commerce, and is a member of the Bay Area Organizational Development Network, the American Society of Training and Development, and the C4 Collaborative of Culinary and Hospitality Industry Consultants.

Dan Whitehurst, an attorney and businessman, brings to The Halle Group extensive experience serving on and counseling corporate and nonprofit boards.

Dan is currently board vice chair of AAA Club Affiliates, a holding company of six auto clubs covering ten states. He is immediate past chair of the Institute for Local Government, a Sacramento-based “think tank” for California cities and counties, and has chaired the Great Valley Center, AAA Northern California and the California Healthy Cities Project.

After practicing business law for a few years, Dan served as Mayor of Fresno, California from 1977 to 1985. Upon leaving office he was a resident fellow of the Institute of Politics at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. In the last two decades, he has run an economic development corporation and a university public policy institute as well as several companies (both publicly and privately owned) in the funeral service industry.

Dan is a graduate of Saint Mary’s College of California and UC Hastings College of the Law. He also has a Master’s in Urban Studies from Occidental College. He resides in the Napa Valley.
